The dress code is generally casual, even in most restaurants.
However, there are a few smarter city hotels and restaurants, where a smart casual outfit may make you feel more comfortable.
If you are planning to travel in summer, our advice is to pack lightweight, loose-fitting clothes in natural fabrics such as linen, silk, and cotton that will keep you cool and are easy to wash and dry.
And don’t forget a safari hat or cap to protect you from the sun.
Good comfortable walking shoes are a must for a visit to Table Mountain or sightseeing in general. We love comfort with style.
Using the interchangeable shoe and flip-flop bases with snap-on decorations, you can change your look from day to evening in an instant whilst still packing light.
What to Wear on Safari
A safari is definitely a grand adventure. But dressing right isn’t only for looks, there are practical reasons people carefully choose what to wear on safari. From keeping cool to blending in, your khakis will be put to the test on the African plains and within the lodge.
Wonder why everyone dresses in khakis when going on safari? Well, it’s because you want to blend in with your environment. Especially if you’re going on a walking safari. Chances are, if you book a multi-day safari, you will be walking at one point or another. We’ve even ridden horses on safari. The more you blend in with your surroundings the better chances you have of not disturbing the wildlife.
When going on safari, it’s important to protect your skin from the elements. You’ll be faced immense heat while on safari in Africa. Although your first instinct may be to wear shorts and a T-shirt, you are better off wearing long sleeves and long pants (when you do walking safaris) that are lightweight and breathable.
CLOTHING TIPS FOR WOMEN
South Africans are pretty conservative, so our advice would be to avoid anything too revealing.
Our advice would be to keep swimwear to the beach and pool and cover up with a kaftan or sarong when walking around public areas.
A skirt or loose-fitting pants are good in the heat and will protect you from the sun.
A pashmina can be useful to dress up any outfit should the occasion arise.
If you are here to work then the dress code is more formal: knee-length skirt and on cooler days a jacket.
CLOTHING TIPS FOR MEN
Men are required to wear a shirt with a collar to clubs (although it can still be casual) and no sneakers or tennis shoes.
